Cycling holiday along the Göta Canal 2027 – 5 days

Experience Göta Canal from the saddle on a wonderful cycling holiday filled with beautiful canal stretches, historic locks, boating and Swedish summer experiences. With Töreboda as your starting point, you get to discover both Göta Canal and Kinnekulle, while staying comfortably at Pensionat Prästgården or in their Annex.
Here, cycling along quiet, car-free canal roads is combined with a classic boat trip on the Göta Canal and an excursion on the Kinnekulletåget train. A varied cycling holiday where the journey itself is a large part of the experience.
Day 1: Töreboda – Sjötorp – Töreboda 40 km
Set off on a relaxing bike ride from Töreboda and follow the car-free towpath along the Göta Canal towards Sjötorp. The bike route runs right next to the Göta Canal. Here you cycle at a leisurely pace through an open and beautiful landscape, with the canal as your companion the whole way.
During the tour you pass 19 locks, where the boats slowly make their way through the locks while you can stop, enjoy the environment and see the canal's boating life up close. It is a bike tour where the road itself is part of the experience – green surroundings, water, boats and small cozy places to stop.
When you arrive at Sjötorp by Lake Vänern, a well-deserved lunch awaits you at Perssons i Backen. Sit down, enjoy the food and the wonderful summer feeling before it's time to cycle back the same way to Töreboda.
Back at Pensionat Prästgården you can relax after today's bike ride and enjoy the evening. For dinner in the evening you can decide for yourself what you want to eat. Either light the grill at Pensionat Prästgården's garden and enjoy the ready-made grill package or there are other options if you don't want to grill. The garden is experienced as a very calming and cozy place.

Day 2: Boat trip on the Göta Canal with M/S Bellevue
A cycling holiday along the Göta Canal is not complete without also experiencing the canal from the water.
On this day you will board the passenger ship M/S Bellevue in Töreboda for an approximately five-hour canal cruise. During the journey, the boat will pass 19 locks while learning more about the history of the Göta Canal and how this impressive structure was created in the early 1800th century.
Traveling through the locks from a boat deck is one of the most classic experiences along the Göta Canal – Sweden's blue ribbon. After the boat trip with M/S Bellevue, you take a bus back to Töreboda.

Day 3 cycling approx: 16 – 60 km
Excursion to Kinnekulle by train
After a few days at the Göta Canal, a new landscape awaits. You cycle to Lyrestad and take the train to Hällekis.
You buy the ticket via the Västtrafik To Go app and it costs approximately 38 SEK per trip.
Here awaits the scenic area of Kinnekulle – often called the flowering mountain. The area is known for its flower meadows, historic manor houses and fantastic views of Lake Vänern.
During the day you cycle through the rolling landscape and experience Kinnekulle from the saddle. A tip is to stop at the charming Hällekis Säteri for lunch.
Back at Pensionat Prästgården you can relax after today's bike ride and enjoy the evening. For dinner in the evening you can decide for yourself what you want to eat. Day 4: Töreboda – Tåtorp – Töreboda, 34 km
After breakfast, another wonderful day of cycling awaits along the Göta Canal. Today's destination is Tåtorp – one of the canal's most historic places.
Here is a hand-operated lock from 1814, where the lock gates are still opened by hand just like when the Göta Canal was built. It is a unique experience and a nice insight into the history of the canal.
Along the way, you'll pass picturesque stops like Wassbacken and Lanthöjden – perfect places for a coffee break or a break by the water.

Day 5: Töreboda
After a few days filled with cycling, locks, good food and wonderful summer experiences along the Göta Canal, the trip ends with a quiet morning in Töreboda.
