Cycling holiday on Gotland – 5-day adventure through the southern island
Experience southern Gotland by bike with our 5-day cycling package! This route takes you through spectacular coastlines, charming fishing villages, rolling landscapes and historic sites – with the iconic Hoburgen as the highlight. Enjoy summer breezes, balmy evenings, salty swims and local delicacies along the way.
Day 1 – Visby to Warfsholm via Högklint (35–40 km)
Start your cycling holiday on Gotland in Visby and follow the medieval cobblestone streets south. Just outside the city's hustle and bustle you reach Högklint, one of Gotland's most impressive nature reserves. Here you stand at the 48-meter-high cliff and enjoy breathtaking views over the sea and Visby's rooftops.
Continue through winding country roads, open meadows and lush forests, accompanied by the scent of pine and wild roses. Along the way, stop at charming cafes and farm shops selling local delicacies.
Today's destination is Warfsholm, a summery idyll by the water, with an overnight stay in an elegant turn-of-the-century villa. Relax on the veranda and enjoy a dinner with Gotland flavors.
Day 2 – Warfsholm to Burgsvik via the Ekstakusten coast (45–55 km)
Continue your cycling holiday on Gotland south through open landscapes with grazing lambs and flowering meadows. Soon you will reach the Ekstakusten coast, one of Gotland's most impressive stretches of coast. Here the gravel road winds along the sea, with views of the Baltic Sea and the Karlsöarna islands on the horizon.
Take a break, cool off by a small cove or enjoy the silence and the wind through the pine trees. Upon arrival at Burgsvik B&B, a hot shower and evening relaxation await you in the garden or along the beach.
Day 3 – Burgsvik to Hoburgen (40–50 km)
The day heads towards the southern tip and the mythical Hoburgen, where limestone cliffs meet sky and sea. Cycle through rolling landscapes with old limestone farms, picturesque villages and grazing lambs.
Stop at Sundre Church for a break and continue towards Hoburgen, where the famous Hoburgsgubben (Old Man) rock formation awaits – a perfect photo opportunity and a symbol of Gotland's natural power.
After a short rest, you cycle back towards Burgsvik, with the opportunity to stop for a coffee or a swim in one of the hidden coves that line the road. The evening ends with dinner at the B&B and peace by the sea.
Day 4 – Burgsvik to Visby (90 km)
This day offers one of Gotland's most iconic cycling routes. From open fields and dramatic coastlines on the Ekstakusten coast to medieval Visby with its ring wall and charming alleys.
Check in at Hotel Solhem in Visby, enjoy the evening's city pulse and prepare for the last day of this cycling holiday on Gotland.
Day 5 – Visby and return home
Your last day on Gotland gives you the opportunity to enjoy the sea, beach walks or the little gems of the city. End your trip with an ice cream at Glassmagasinet and let the flavors and aromas of Gotland settle in.
