Day 1: Töreboda – Sjötorp – Töreboda (40 km cycling)
Your journey begins in Töreboda, an ideal starting point for train travelers. On the first day you cycle along Göta Canal, where you pass 19 impressive locks on your way to Sjötorp by Lake Vänern. The cycle paths are car-free and easy to cycle, giving you a fantastic experience along the calm waters of the canal. When you return to Töreboda, you check in at the cosy Guest house Prästgården, where you end the day with a good dinner at Prestgården's small Italian Tavern.
Today's Tip: If you haven't had lunch along the way, you can choose from several restaurants in Sjötorp, such as Café Baltzar, Restaurant Kajutan, and Maltes Fisk & Perssons in Backen.
Day 2: Töreboda – Karlsborg (55 km cycling)
After breakfast at Pensionat Prästgården you continue to Karlsborg vid Vaettern. You cycle along the Göta canal, past the famous one Land height, an island that arose through a digging mistake. At Tåtorp by the lake Viken you can see one of the manually operated locks. The bike ride takes you on to Forsvik, Sweden's first industrial location, and further towards Karlsborg, which was once Sweden's reserve capital. Once you arrive in Karlsborg, you check in at Hotel Rödesund and have the opportunity to participate in a guided tour of the historic Karlsborg Fortress.
Day 3: Karlsborg – Motala – Borensberg – Ljungsbro (25 km cycling + boat trip)
Today's stage begins with a shorter bike ride and a car transport around Lake Vättern to Motala. Get on board M / S Kung Sverker at 10:30 and enjoy a lovely boat trip to Borensberg. Here you can explore Östergötland's only manually operated lock. After the boat trip, you cycle along the picturesque towpath at Göta Canal and passes locks and viaducts. The cycle tour offers a unique view of the landscape. The day ends with dinner and an overnight stay Ljungsbro leisure center.
Today's Tip: Coffee at Berg's Locks before dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Ljungsbro – Bergs Slussar – Norsholm – Söderköping (65 km / 25 km cycling)
On the fourth day, you cycle along the Göta canal to Söderköping, a charming town with historic streets. You can also take the cycle boat over lake Asplången, which is a unique and comfortable experience. Söderköping is known for its cobbled streets, which were, among other things, a filming location for Astrid Lindgren's Madicken. You end the day with dinner and an overnight stay at the historic property Hotel Söderköping Brunn.
Today's Tip: Choose to cycle around Lake Roxen (40 km) or take the boat across the lake (45 min). Taking the boat is recommended for a relaxing experience.
Day 5: Söderköping – Mem – Söderköping (12 km cycling)
The last stage goes from Söderköping to Mem, there Göta Canal meets Baltic Sea. Here you cycle along the canal on car-free roads, surrounded by beautiful nature and quiet boats gliding past. Feel free to end with one guided tour on a locomotive from Resecentrum, and discover more about the city, which was also the filming location for Madicken.
