Cycling holiday along the Göta Canal – through the Berg Canal to Tåtorp

Day1
Vassbacken - Tåtorp – Vassbacken (11 km)
Experience an unforgettable cycling holiday along the Göta Canal! Start at Vassbacken, where you check in and enjoy a delicious lunch or coffee before pedaling towards Tåtorp.
On the way you cycle through the scenic Bergskanalen, a beautiful and leafy passage where the canal cuts through the landscape. You also pass Lanthöjden, where an impressive seven-meter-high obelisk marks the highest point of the Göta Canal.

In Tåtorp, the Göta Canal flows into Lake Viken, and here you can visit the charming, hand-operated lock from 1814. After a day filled with nature, history and cycling fun, you return to Vassbacken, where comfortable accommodation and a delicious dinner await.

Day 2
Vassbacken – Sjötorp – Vassbacken (60 km)
The bike tour begins in Vassbacken, where you hop on your bike and follow the cozy, car-free gravel road along the Göta Canal. Here you pedal at a leisurely pace through idyllic landscapes, where boats slowly glide along the canal and the summer sun warms you nicely.

Along the way you will pass 19 beautiful locks, each with its own history and charm. Take a break, enjoy the green surroundings and experience the atmosphere at some of the most iconic places along the canal.

Lunch break in Sjötorp by Lake Vänern
Your destination is the cozy harbor village of Sjötorp, where the Göta Canal meets the sparkling waters of Lake Vänern. Here you can settle down at one of the popular restaurants and cafés:

Café Baltzar – For a delicious coffee or light lunch
Restaurant Kajutan – Enjoy classic dishes with a view of Lake Vänern
Maltes Fisk – Perfect for those who love fresh fish and seafood
Perssons i Backen – A charming gem with local food and a nice atmosphere

After a tasty break, you can stroll around the harbor, look at the boats and maybe take a swim before it's time to cycle back.

Summer evening in Vassbacken – Food & Music

When you return to Vassbacken, a lovely dinner awaits you at Vassbacken Café. Sit on the outdoor terrace with a view of the Göta Canal, enjoy the warm evening air and let the day's experiences sink in.

If you cycle here on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday, you will also be treated to live music with our house troubadour Raimo, who creates an atmospheric and summery atmosphere under the evening sky.

Day 3:
Relaxation and summer idyll in Vassbacken
After your cycling adventure along the Göta Canal, it's time to enjoy a quiet and relaxing day in the scenic surroundings of Vassbacken. Here, in the middle of the fertile Västgöta Plain, surrounded by greenery and with the Göta Canal as a backdrop, you can unwind and really take in the peaceful atmosphere.

Start your morning with a delicious breakfast at Vassbackens Café, where you can sit outside and feel the fresh morning air while looking out over the canal. Here you can enjoy freshly baked bread, fresh produce and a cup of steaming coffee – the perfect start to a summer day.

After breakfast, you can choose to spend the day however you want – actively or in complete relaxation:

Pedal along the Göta Canal – Take a ride on the pedal boat and experience the canal at your own pace.
Kayaking in calm waters – Glide along the canal and enjoy the mirror-like surface and silence.
Mini golf with family & friends – Challenge each other in a fun round on our mini golf course.
Sun & swim at our sandy beach – If the weather permits, take a short walk to Vassbacken's own small sandy beach, where you can sit back in the sun or take a refreshing dip. (Göta Canal's only sandy beach)
